AbbVie is seeking a creative and highly motivated individual with expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to join our team as a Director, Companion Diagnostics Strategy Lead. In this role, you will have the exciting opportunity to develop Next Generation Companion Diagnostics (CDx) solutions that will revolutionize patient care in the fields of oncology (solid and heme), immunology, and neuroscience. As part of the Precision Medicine CDx team, you will be responsible for leveraging AI and ML technologies to develop and implement global diagnostics strategies to accelerate and enable the global development and commercialization of medically differentiated precision therapies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment and be a key member of multidisciplinary development project teams. Essential Duties and Job Functions:
- Develop and implement the global AI powered CDx strategies for targeted therapeutic areas, working closely with the Digital Pathology group
- Utilize AI and ML techniques for digital pathology to enable precision medicine
- Lead the development and implementation of diagnostic strategies for individual projects and/or therapeutic areas
- Direct the development, outsourcing and validation of clinically applicable companion diagnostic assays for FIH and registrational studies
- Design, implement and oversee diagnostic testing and data analysis
- Provide expertise to development project teams to ensure access to state-of-the-art thinking on appropriate diagnostic technologies, evaluating their scientific basis and clinical applicability, the validation status and any technical or statistical issues related to the proposed biomarker and companion diagnostics
- Experience in leading interactions with global health authorities regarding CDx development and submissions is a plus

- Highly experienced biomedical leader (PhD or MD) with a minimum of 10 years of post-doctoral and relevant industry experience with expertise in AI and ML for tissue diagnostics and digital biomarker development in oncology/immunology/neuroscience
- Demonstrated excellence in developing and implementing overarching therapeutic area CDx strategies
- Proven ability to independently lead and conduct research, evaluate, interpret and present complex scientific data
- Experience in implementing image derived biomarkers for clinical programs
- Strong background in human translational research with biomarker application in clinical trials and awareness of the challenges of implementing diagnostic technologies in the clinical setting
- Excellent leadership skills including motivation and delegation
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills in English
- High level of initiative and ability to work independently
- Strong business awareness

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
