Purpose
AbbVie seeks a driven, high-performing communications director to lead strategy and execution of programs that support the company’s Migraine franchise, including critical growth brands for the company.
Reporting to the Head of Neuroscience Public Affairs, this high-profile role is responsible for driving strategic and integrated public affairs planning and initiatives for AbbVie’s leading migraine treatments. Director must possess strong business acumen, be a strategic and creative thinker and have deep understanding of media and influencer relations while managing a broad range of internal and external stakeholders across all levels of brand, functional and company management as needed.
Responsibilities
- Drive high-impact public affairs programs to advance business objectives with emphasis on competitive differentiation, analytics and the external environment.
- Provide strategic counsel and contribute to decisions of management, integrated brand teams and other internal stakeholders on courses of action to address proactive opportunities and to anticipate and manage issues.
- Analyze the communications environment and stakeholder insights to inform strategic planning, objectives and key business decisions.
- Interface with media proactively and reactively as AbbVie corporate spokesperson.
- Build and manage relationships with internal and third-party spokespeople and prepare them for external speaking opportunities.
- Develop and maintain relationships on behalf of AbbVie with patient advocates and influencers.
- Responsible for compliance with applicable corporate and divisional policies and procedures.
- Consistently share best practices and offer new ideas and thinking to raise the bar for Corporate Affairs.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 10 years public relations experience required.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing insight-driven, strategic and measurable external public affairs programs on behalf of pharmaceutical and consumer products.
- Proven track record of working with senior executives and leading teams.
- Strong understanding about the value of public relations and its role in the integrated marketing mix.
- Ability to provide strategic counsel for a variety of communications scenarios and to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our long-term incentive programs.

Pay Range: $
160500 - 305000 USD
Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
