The Director of Business Design and Enablement (BD&E) is responsible for ensuring a connected and unified patient experience which delivers positive patient outcomes. The Director BD&E leads a team comprised of business design leads who partner with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and platform product owners who strategize and execute multi-year business system roadmaps advancing critical APS strategies and capabilities.
The BD&E team provides business and technical savvy to efficiently design and scale business solutions and technology platforms across the APS portfolio. This role works closely with senior level, cross-functional leaders to understand brand requirements, business priorities and patient needs. The Director must ensure a clear understanding of Patient Services Programs and enterprise program value propositions for current care model designs while anticipating the future fit design and capabilities needed longer term.
Major Responsibilities:
- Leads team to perform assessments and synthesize information for design or redesign of patient care models for AbbVie brands in partnership with Patient Services Strategy team and Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team to ensure operational implementation and execution of appropriate technology programs and solutions that underpin the care model.
- Advances business roadmaps and strategies to deliver AbbVie Patient Services strategic priorities and Future Fit initiatives. Works alongside cross-functional leaders to prototype and test the feasibility of innovation, technology platforms and solutions
- Manage platform design, transformation and alignment of strategic objectives and outcomes focused on customer experience with executive stakeholders, steering committees, and integrated solution delivery teams
- Leads the design and impact assessment of innovative ideas from the AbbVie Patient Services organization, the broader AbbVie organization, other life science organizations, that could be considered as a new capability or solution for APS.
- Drives a collaborative and positive culture within a heavily matrixed team across Patient Services, BTS and MABI to deliver scalable and impactful business and technology solutions to meet patient needs
- Assists Patient Access and Care Teams (PACTs) to identify program improvement opportunities of brands/therapeutic areas (TAs) and patient services programs
- Collects business and technical platform design learnings across brands and therapeutic areas to scale consistent best practices across care model programs, ensuring maximum organizational efficiency while meeting unique patient needs
- Collaborates closely with Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team throughout the software development lifecycle, inclusive of in depth understanding of coding and systems requirements
- Sets direction and standards to lead consistent product ownership practices in the execution of strategic delivery of access and reimbursement and patient engagement strategies, projects, and workstreams
- Owns the APS capital budget and the related planning and management processes to ensure funding for platform improvements, technical resources and business design enablement
- Ensures alignment and collaboration within the APS Enterprise Strategic Planning, BD&E and Operations Center of Excellence teams
- Leads, coaches and mentors a large diverse team with diverse backgrounds and significant areas of responsibility
- Fosters an inclusive culture across a blended team of employees, contractors, and vendor partners
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, Master’s degree preferred
- 5+ years of experience in program design, platform design, technology development, and business requirement roadmap development
- Strong financial and business acumen with experience with long- and short-range planning, multi-million-dollar budgetary planning, and financial analysis and reporting
- Strong people development and leadership skills are essential with prior experience leading people leaders and large teams comprised of employees and contractors
- Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally (matrix leadership/influence) to gain alignment regarding objectives and priorities while leading in times of change and ambiguity
- Proven experience with resource allocation, vendor relationship management and contract negotiation
- Understanding of patient experience journey preferred
