Job Description

AbbVie Patient Services is committed to provide best-in-class solutions for patients through personalized assistance, education, and support that aid in empowering patients with the right information so they can understand their condition, follow their treatment plan and feel prepared to manage a routine with their prescribed therapy.  Our Access and Reimbursement team is responsible for developing and executing access strategies to help patients afford and access their prescribed medication quickly, easily, and consistently.

Purpose

The Director of Access & Reimbursement Strategy is responsible for developing and leading strategies to optimize access to Abbvie’s products and ensure successful reimbursement across various healthcare systems and payer landscapes. In collaboration with Access & Reimbursement leadership, Payer, Trade, and Hub teams, the Director identifies and oversees initiatives that drive a competitive advantage for Abbvie’s patient support programs, access strategies, reimbursement programs and access hubs. These high-impact initiatives aim to increase internal agility and improve patient outcomes by maximizing effective access.

Responsibility Summary

  • Develop Access and Reimbursement Strategies: Lead the development of comprehensive access and reimbursement strategies in partnership with APS, Market Access, Trade and Hub teams, to maximize patient access to our products while ensuring financial viability.
  • Oversees key, high-visibility strategic initiatives and drives change management and stakeholder engagement across a diverse and highly matrixed Patient Services organization ensuring prioritized deliverables and milestones are met within budget and time parameters.
  • Performance Monitoring: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of access and reimbursement strategies. Regularly monitor and evaluate performance against these KPIs, adjusting strategies as needed to optimize results.
  • Reimbursement Support Programs: Oversee the development and implementation of reimbursement support programs to assist patients, healthcare providers, and payers in navigating reimbursement challenges.
  • Policy Analysis: Stay informed about changes in healthcare policy, reimbursement regulations, and market trends that may impact access to our products. Develop strategies to navigate and adapt to these changes effectively.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, and Legal, to ensure alignment of access and reimbursement strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Represents Access & Reimbursement in partnering with key businesses and senior leaders to drive alignment between business strategy and key stakeholders.
  •  Stays abreast of constantly changing market conditions, industry trends, government regulations, quality standards, and other internal and external requirements that affect the strategic programs of A&R
  • Obtains and maintains an in-depth knowledge of product segmentation, brand life cycle, and the potential impact on Patient Services and Access & Reimbursement critical initiatives.
  • Positions the company for an optimum relationships and number of strategic stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership to personnel that accurately interpret patient needs, institutions, regulatory and compliance measures working with OEC, legal, quality and compliance and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with Internal stakeholders (i.e., Quality, OEC, Legal, SPDO, BTS, etc.)  and external stakeholders (institutions, insurance organizations, access hubs, etc.) to develop processes, standards & requirements that position AbbVie as an industry leader in patient solutions and access.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required: Business Administration, Technical (Medical and or Engineering) or other relevant field of study
  • Master’s degree in business administration, Finance or Technical Preferred
  • 15+ years access and reimbursement or related field required.
  • 7+ years supervisory experience
  • Strong Project management
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership in a matrix environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • This dynamic position is relationship orientated, customer focused, team based, highly analytical, creative, dynamic (must stay abreast of dynamic landscape of access & reimbursement)

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​
