Reporting to the Finance Director, the Controller direct, plan, and control the financial, cost accounting, and compliance activities for the local entity, while providing strategic support through close engagement across the affiliate. The role involves overall management responsibility of the operations and guiding and overseeing the work of the Accounting, Purchasing and Payable, Account Receivable and Customer Service team in the finance department. Execute a full range of controllership responsibilities, including financial record keeping, reporting, planning, financial analysis, and compliance with internal control policies, systems, and procedures. Assist management in achieving annual and long-term financial objectives through reliable, timely, and accurate financial information. Coordinate the affiliate's Balance sheet management and communication with Financial Shared Services (FSS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting/Control: Accurately monitor and report financial performance ensuring compliance with local and corporate policies. Ascertain and assure proper month-end close, Balance sheet reconciliation and other financial information working closely with FSS.
  • Strategic Partnering: Provide financial analysis for functional decision-making, establishing appropriate local policies in line with corporate guidelines.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze variances versus benchmarks; organize business information to identify risks and opportunities; provide innovative alternatives and solutions when issues arise.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance: Maintain a strong system of internal accounting controls; oversee internal and external audits; ensure compliance with local legal and tax requirements.
  • Shared Services Coordination: Maintain interactions with Business Process Outsourcers (BPO), Finance shared Services (FSS), and Center of Excellences (COEs) to optimize financial controls and operations.
  • Supervision and Leadership: Manage the Accounting, Purchasing to Payable, Account Receivable and Customer service department personnel, ensuring adherence to HR policies and regulations; lead goal developments, performance evaluations, and employee training and coaching.
  • Support Management and Strategic Initiatives: Assist the Finance Director and affiliate management in strategic initiatives and projects.
  • USGAAP Compliance and Reporting: Ensure that the financial records and reports of the affiliate adhere to US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (USGAAP). This includes preparing and reviewing financial statements and disclosures to meet USGAAP requirements. Oversee the implementation of any new USGAAP standards and provide guidance and training to the finance team to maintain compliance. Act as a liaison with external and internal auditors to facilitate the USGAAP audit process and resolve any issues related to financial reporting standards.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant finance experience with at least 6 years in general accounting, and financial analysis.
  • Minimum 5 years of managerial / supervisory experience
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience is an asset.

  • Bilingual in French and English.

Systems

  • Proficiency in PC skills (Excel, Power Point) 
  • SAP knowledge preferred

Business Knowledge

  • Business process, corporate policy (compliance and completeness) and financial data flows

Technical Knowledge

  • Accounting fundamentals
  • Financial Planning and Analysis fundamentals
  • Internal control activities fundamentals
