The OEC Manager reports through the AbbVie Office of Ethics & Compliance Organization with the supervision of the Ethics and Compliance Director in Spain. He/she is responsible for providing support and direct oversight for AbbVie’s compliance program in the country.
Core Job Responsibilities
Performs the following responsibilities with moderate supervision from Ethics and Compliance Director:
- Support in creating a best-in-class compliance program in partnership with the Affiliate Compliance Insight Forum (ACIF) to support AbbVie’s therapeutic business in Spain. Prepare, attend, contribute and lead follow up activities in relation to Spanish Affiliate ACIF Meetings. Act as back up to the Spanish OEC Director.
- Provides guidance and support on national industry codes and regional/international industry codes (e.g. EFPIA and IFPMA), government regulations including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other initiatives sponsored by the Office of Ethics & Compliance.
- Maintains a close partnership with business to help them to co-create strategic initiatives. Provides guidance on proposed Affiliate programs, tactics and strategies, identifies basic legal, regulatory or other relevant issues and refers matters to respective departments, analyzes alternatives and proposes solutions to the business.
- Performs compliance risk assessments, trend analyses and provides and implements best practices recommendations.
- Implements, manages and interprets compliance policies, procedures and practices in alignment with the OEC Director.
- Contributes to the Global compliance program by developing, implementing and managing initiatives across multiple geographies.
- Leads awareness, education and training programs that focus on the elements of the Code of Business Conduct, policies and procedures and applicable industry codes and regulations.
- Proactively identify, assess and mitigate risks and provide advice to the affiliate in relation to the law, the local code and the internal policies and procedures.
- Organizes and maintains ethics and compliance records, documents and files and document databases.
- Leads the execution of the Affiliate monitoring plan to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Leads the implementation in Spain of Global/International strategic initiatives that enhance the Global Compliance program, such us compliance analytics, Artificial Intelligence, etc.
- Develops, implements, modifies and executes Affiliate non-RCI (reportable compliance incident), supports Internal Investigations’ Procedures (communicating with and at the direction of AbbVie Internal Investigations as necessary).
- Assists Affiliate with compliance audits, oversees the fulfillment of auditors’ requests, acts as liaison between business and auditors during on-site activities, evaluates and responds to preliminary findings and recommendations, guides the business in preparing corrective action to address findings and recommendations, and ensures timely completion.
- Partners with peers in other geographies to advance the Global compliance program.
- Bachelor in law, Finance or equivalent
- Ability to work in multicultural cross-functional teams

Minimum Experience/Training Required
- At least 5 years of professional experience in functions such as compliance, internal audit, regulatory affairs or legal.
- Pharmaceutical industry experience.

Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
