Job Description

The Biologics Operations Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and distribution of manufacturing tasks of highly expensive and sensitive biological products.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with AbbVie policies/procedures, and with applicable regulatory agency requirements.
  • Coordinate and monitor shift changes, work itineraries, and tasks of biological operators to ensure that the process continues according to the production plan and within the parameters established in compliance with the plant objectives (safety, overtime, quality, etc.).
  • Responsible for the coordination and operation of manufacturing equipment and instruments, such as Tanks, Autoclaves, filtration systems, washers, filling and inspection machines, filter integrity testing, pH meters, etc. as applicable.
  • Coordinate or perform equipment and facility cleaning activities, sampling, and in-process test.
  • Request work orders for the repair and maintenance of equipment. Document the status of the production processes, and the maintenance of the equipment during the work shift.
  • Monitor processes through computerized systems and visual inspection of equipment, as applicable. Recognize when the parameters of the process are diverted to alert and take action to avoid process deviations and / or loss of product.
  • Report events or discrepancies that occurred during shift. Perform required inventory transactions.
  • Ensure the correct disposal of products and materials that fail specifications according to established.
  • Coordinate and prepare equipment, take samples of equipment at different times of the processes, and perform laboratory tests as required.
  • Provide assistance to operations in accordance with environmental management, occupational health and safety (EHS) systems and promote continuous improvement. Comply with all EHS procedures and policies including incident reporting, use of PPE, waste management and disposal, and any other program applicable according to the position duties.

Significant Work Activities:

  • Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
  • Continuous standing for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
  • Continuous walking for prolonged periods (more than 2 hours at a time in an 8 hour day),Work in a clean room environment

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High School or GED with seven (7) years of experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Experience in similar position preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Natural Sciences, preferably in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Engineering or an associate degree in instrumentation, automation, electronics or mechanics or business administration with five (5) years of experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Experience in similar position preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in Natural Sciences, preferably in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Engineering or an associate degree in instrumentation, automation, electronics or mechanics or business administration with three (3) years of experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Experience in similar position preferred.
  • Coordinators assigned in parenteral areas, must have experience in aseptic techniques, formulation, aseptic filling of sterile product and/or automatic manual visual inspection of Parenteral products.
  • Mathematical and mechanical skills.
  • Ability to lead work groups and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities with a minimum degree of supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of computerized systems, ability to read, write, interpret, and communicate instructions in English and Spanish.
  • Annual vision tests and ability to inspect parenteral product are required in the area of manufacturing of parenteral biological products.
  • Availability to work the third & night shift, weekends, overtime and holidays according to business needs.
