Job Description

The Safety Pharmacology department plays an especially influential role in all Abbvie discovery projects by providing both standard in vitro and in vivo cardiovascular safety screening as well as fit-for-purpose assay development to aid in critical decision making. Safety pharmacology at Abbvie focuses primarily on cardiovascular safety, but our wide variety of expertise allows us to look at several organ systems and investigate the mechanistic underpinnings of observed toxicities as needed.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our safety pharmacology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for running, analyzing, and reporting in vitro and in vivo assays as well as assisting senior scientists with projects as needed in a collaborative, team-based setting. The successful candidate should be able to apply basic scientific principles to research and be proficient in basic lab techniques (pipetting, measuring, concentration calculations, etc.).

Responsibilities: 

  • Completely follow established experimental protocols and assess results with supervision.
  • Recognize and report experimental variances.
  • Apply basic scientific principles to research.
  • Learn and effectively implement new experimental protocols and/or techniques. Maintain laboratory equipment and optimize laboratory operations for efficient use of time and laboratory supplies and reagents, when appropriate.
  • Consult literature to understand scientific purpose of assignments. Impact projects predominantly through lab and/or pilot plant based activities.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.

Qualifications

  • BS in biology or related field with 3 years of industry experience OR MS in biology or related field with 0 years of industry experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work and contribute within a team
  • Strong critical thinking skills demonstrating ability to troubleshoot testing issues
  • Good time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Fast learner, able to generate and analyze data with little supervision
  • Proficient with Microsoft office for data analysis
