Process Research and Development is responsible for inventing and executing the chemical processes and preparing active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to enable clinical trials, toxicology studies and drug product development for Abbvie’s pre-clinical and clinical candidates. We create valuable intellectual property through composition of matter, chemical processes, and technology resulting in a cost-effective commercial manufacturing process. We develop the supply chain for APIs, prepare and defend CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control) regulatory content. 

 

We seek a highly motivated scientist with strong synthetic skills to work under the mentorship of a supervisor and to work in a multi-functional team environment. Opportunities may also exist to contribute to high-throughput experimentation, automation, and data science. 


Job Description

  • Responsible for developing and executing organic chemical processes that provides practical access to potential therapies, which may include small molecules and/or antibody drug conjugates. 

  • Multi-disciplinary interactions with organic chemists, analytical chemists, engineers, and solid state scientists.  

  • Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise. Additionally, the candidate will proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall program. 

  • Productive in performing laboratory research or method development, with direction from or interaction with supervisor. 

  • May initiate new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable, and can be incorporated directly into a research or development program. 

  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable


Qualifications

  • MS degree in chemistry with 0+ years of laboratory experience or BS degree in chemistry with 3+ years laboratory experience.  

  • A broad range of functional expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry, compound purification, spectral analysis and interpretation. 

  • An ability to search the chemical literature and evaluate potential solutions to synthetic problems. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Experience performing synthetic method development, new reaction discovery, study of reaction mechanism or total synthesis.

  • May have experience conducting high-throughput experimentation, automation, or data science.

Position will be hired based on level of experience.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.   • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​
