Job Description

The Associate Director, Scientific Communications - Skincare strategically and tactically executes the development and implementation of industry-leading scientific communications & education for the Skincare R&D and Medical Affairs organization according to the Global Scientific Communications Strategy for Skincare in alignment with Asset Strategy and corporate goals across all product areas. They will be responsible for planning and developing key scientific resources and tools related to the skincare portfolio including Skincare differentiation strategies and analysis of the competitive landscape. They will provide an advanced level of scientific and medical-related resources and tools that are accurate, consistent, and inclusive of the most recent clinical/scientific data/information, collaborating cross-functionally with other teams (R&D, Commercial, Compliance, Regulatory, Legal) on implementation and deployment. They will maintain expert knowledge in the skincare and aesthetics areas to serve as scientific, medical and clinical expert to the Medical Affairs, R&D and commercial teams. They will also provide medical scientific education of internal stakeholders as well as external customers in support of the Skincare portfolio. The scope of the role will include support of both US and International teams.

Key Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development of Skincare Scientific Communications content and resources, and ensures all materials (new and existing) are up to date, aligned and consistent with the Global Scientific Communications Strategy for Skincare.
  • Plans and develops Scientific Communications tools, by critically reviewing clinical and scientific related resources and new developments in the industry, through the creation of scientific communication channels, including scientific presentation slide decks, educational materials, and other assets in collaboration with various internal teams as well as external stakeholders.
  • Explores and incorporates innovative modalities (digital and interactive technology) to address business needs and ensure best-in-class Scientific Communications resources.
  • Maintains current and comprehensive knowledge of the skincare and aesthetics fields based on scientific literature and new developments in the industry.
  • Responsible for thorough knowledge of the competitive landscape and current and future product entries.
  • Addresses educational scientific gaps identified through the gathering of feedback from multiple sources, compiling and summarizing to identify relevant insights and to communicate trends to the broader team.
  • Identifies, designs and implements focused and impactful internal training aiming to shape scientific understanding of etiology, mechanism of action, clinical research data etc.
  • Supports global publications plans for Skincare.
  • Organizes advisory boards and other opportunities to obtain key insights for ongoing scientific advancements and future developments.
  • Provides medical scientific education of external customers in support of the Skincare portfolio.
  • Maintains on-going communication with therapeutic area peers in Medical Affairs and other relevant functions to ensure alignment of materials with departmental and business strategies. 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Scientific or medical education required.
  • PhD or MD degree required.
  • Experience related to skincare, skin biology, dermatology or medical aesthetics required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Scientific/Medical Communications or MSL role.
  • Strong scientific research background and the ability to critically review and analyze scientific literature and (pre-)clinical data, and to effectively distil and communicate key information.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills and creative and strategic thinking required.
  • Strong project management skills with a proven track record to deliver high-quality projects while meeting timelines.
  • Works individually and collaboratively with other cross-functional team members.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with management, peers, and customers.
  • Be excellence focused and acts as an owner and influencer.
  • Knowledge of clinical study design and methodology preferred.
  • Knowledge of marketing theory, principles, and practices within the health care industry preferred.

  • Ability to convey clinical and scientific information effectively.

  • Advanced PowerPoint and design skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with proven ability/track record to effectively present to audiences of varying levels.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize workload, multi-task and manage a diverse mix of issues, responsibilities and challenges.
  • Strong analytical, problem resolution, and organizational skills
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a matrixed organization.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and interface in a dynamic and fast-paced environment across departments.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​
