Job Description

Purpose Statement:

The Global R&D Study Forecasting Associate Director is responsible for managing the activities of the study forecasting group. This position also oversees the planning and execution of forecasting outputs and analysis for Plan, LBE, LRP and Portfolio submissions, has a high level of technical knowledge across the clinical studies and establishes standards across the team. The associate director provides consultative study cost information to key stakeholders and is crucial in ensuring business stakeholders get the insights and analysis needed to understand the financial implications of their clinical study design and governance driven decisions. This position also oversees key process initiatives and is a subject matter expert for clinical study savings projects working closely with the clinical teams, procurement, project management and others.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manages 4 direct reports, total team of 12.
  • Has a high level of technical knowledge across clinical studies, and clinical study designs.
  • Highly competent in analyzing clinical contracts and evaluating historical data trends.
  • Proactively understands the interdependencies of clinical trial study costs to explain and provide clear concise financial advice and transparency to both clinical and finance partners.
  • Responsible to ensure the team meets timelines for financial processes by updating forecasts at a regular cadence, including all business development requests.
  • Provides guidance to the team to conduct scenario planning and costing of clinical studies to support portfolio submissions, key strategic governance meetings and business development opportunities
  • Ensures a cross-functional mindset across the team by driving partnered interactions with both external and internal stakeholders and leading by example to drive continuous improvement as well as leveraging expertise to recommend best practices, and system and process improvements.
  • Develop and train the team to expand their skill sets while positioning the team to be ready to support the growing needs of the business
  • Has a strong performance mindset and focuses on teamwork, relationship-building, acting courageously and constructively, and has a high level of agility and accountability

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Requires 7-10 years progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • This position requires an individual with the ability and desire to proactively search out and evaluate business problems and opportunities
  • Ability to develop new ways of working to provide exceptional study forecasting support
  • Thorough understanding of financial management, budget processes, forecasting, and data analysis
  • Ability to solve business problems through the proactive identification of issues and subsequent collection, analysis and interpretation of related data
  • Strong communication, presentation and inter-personal skills
  • Experience building teams with the appropriate mix of capabilities, as well as coaching and training team members to be collaborative business partners
  • Proven track record of working effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Perform quality oversight to ensure integrity and accuracy of forecasting outputs
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, prioritize and respond to changing needs of the business
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Preferred: MBA in Accounting or Finance and/or CPA/CMA
