As an Associate Director in Supply Chain and Program Strategy Group (SCPS), you will develop and lead short- and long-term manufacturing and supply chain strategies for AbbVie’s SM, t-LNPs, Peptides, Biologics DS, and ADC assets. They will guide leadership team on the critical decisions and CMC budgetary implications. Consistently phase gate external spend and align with Dev Sci LT on any at-risk spend. They will collaborate across multiple disciplines and will have strong ability to influence in matrix organization and senior leaders. They will represent AbbVie on high profile partnerships and in-licensing of externally developed assets. They will either lead and support Dev Sci strategic initiatives. Manufacturing, Technical Operations, Quality, Process Safety, People Management, Digital Transformation, CMC clinical development experience and knowledge are highly desired.
Responsibilities:
- Perform SCPS responsibilities on multiple AbbVie projects and mentor API teams and PPDST to develop robust internal and external manufacturing strategy for AbbVie’s SM, t-LNPs, Peptides, Biologics DS and ADC clinical assets
- Take ownership of CMC timelines, DS supply/demand, proactively gating and aligning at-risk spending. Develop Cost of Goods estimates for R&D projects
- Proactively identify and communicate program level critical supply chain issues to the Dev Sci LT and work with appropriate SMEs on mitigation plan
- Influencing without authority at cross functional meetings to achieve best solutions - balancing and aligning both the functional and asset team needs.
- Successfully recruits and retains key personnel. Provide career development opportunities for team members and create a diverse pool of talented performers which are well knowledgeable in outsourcing activities and can effectively work in a matrix environment
- Seek cross-functional collaboration opportunities for improving workflows, supply chain management, in-licensing and CMC development
- Work closely with AbbVie’s purchasing, fiancé, regulatory and quality organizations to ensure that all the third-party activities are performed in compliance with AbbVie’s internal requirements for quality, finance, ethics and regulatory. Facilitate TQA and MSA activities as appropriate.
- Establish durable leadership capability to address complex outsourcing challenges
- Drive suppliers spend diversification and actively manage core suppliers relationships
- Lead due-diligence and on-boarding CMC activities for in-licenses assets. Identify key gaps and mitigation plan for DS and DP supply chain.
- Manage and support development and manufacturing activities at CROs/CDMOs and available to participate in call across multiple international time zones.
- Drive implementation of AI & ML and operational excellence in SCPS workflow
- Experience obtained through a combination of appropriate education in chemical engineering and related fields with PHD 8+ and/or MS 10+ years of relevant pharma/biotech industry experience
- Experience in Tech Transfer & Lifecycle Management for SM, ADCs, Biologics DS, Peptides, and t-LNP
- Experience working in large scale production facility and pilot plant. Technical Operations and cGMP manufacturing experience is a plus
- Knowledge of CMC regulatory, quality and process safety is highly desired
- Experience driving digital transformation and automation to achieve operational excellence in workflow is desired
- Exceptional program management skills and act as owner, ability to collaborate and influence effectively cross functionally
- Established SME and strategic thinker, ability to support multiple projects, and keep pace with fast moving organization
- Ability and willingness to domestic and international travel up to 25%

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.

Pay Range: $
137500 - 261000 USD
Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
