Job Description

The Associate Director, Local Community Grants is a newly create role in the Global Philanthropy team that will be responsible for leading the AbbVie Foundation’s local community grantmaking program in the United States and Puerto Rico to address local community needs with respect to the social determinants of health. The Associate Director reports to the Senior Director, Global Philanthropy with the Corporate Responsibility & Global Philanthropy organization.

The Associate Director, Local Community Grants will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and implement a new community grantmaking strategy that provides support for local non-profits in communities where AbbVie has a significant operational footprint across the US, helping to close gaps in the social determinants of health and advance AbbVie Foundation’s philanthropic mission to advance health equity.
  • Establish a governance, process, and eligibility framework to identify and evaluate nonprofits that will be funded, considering the unique community needs in select locations where the program will target and in alignment with AbbVie Foundation priorities; maintain a technology platform and grant system to foster efficient grantmaking processes.
  • Engage with leaders and employees across AbbVie site locations to foster collaboration in and understanding of the local community grant making process, and to ensure awareness of grantees to foster employee pride and engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, stakeholders, and other philanthropic partners to understand community needs and identify opportunities for collaboration and support.
  • Develop and manage the annual grantmaking budget for local grants, ensuring effective allocation of resources and timely distribution of funds to selected organizations.
  • Establish metrics to assess the impact of the Local Community Grants programs, and effectively track outcomes and impact to inform internal and external reporting, and to support communications and storytelling.

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 8-10 years’ experience in corporate philanthropy, corporate affairs, corporate responsibility, project management, or related area in the pharmaceutical and/or health care industry.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners. Must be an individual who works well in a team environment and enjoys working in a collegial, yet highly demanding culture. Ability to influence without authority, speak and write persuasively and with clarity.
  • Excellent project management skills; strong attention to detail, a proven track record of being able to work under deadlines.
  • Ability to assess and interpret community needs and evaluate the effectiveness of grantmaking strategies and programs; strong organizational skills and adaptability to an evolving environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to identify innovative solutions to community challenges.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​
