The Associate Director, International Strategic Pricing, will be responsible for effectively manage pricing governance for on market assets, while ensuring for pipeline assets we translate the value of our assets and indications into both optimal pricing & contracting guidance, and where needed develop appropriate sustainable access model. They are responsible for working within the Value & Access Team for their Brands and or Indications to ensure we shape the price potential of our assets, through utilization of our strategic pricing framework and advanced modelling tools. They are also responsible for driving key scenario analysis such as Price Volume Time Tradeoffs and indication sequencing.
Pricing plays a critical role within our integrated access strategies, and as such the Associate Directors for strategic pricing are core members of the Value & Access Teams. Working to shape our overall access strategies, payer value propositions, and other critical deliverables to affiliate access teams, across on-market and early to late-stage pipeline AbbVie assets.
This role is also responsible for researching, evaluating, and identifying appropriate access models including Contracting Guidance, that would generate value for patients, healthcare systems and AbbVie.
Given the importance of pricing to AbbVie’s overall performance this role requires an ability to think strategically and creatively and requires strong matrix leadership and communication skills given the role demands regular engagement with key members of iMAP leadership team, and team members across the organization across including IMCO, PCS, R&D, Finance, and Commercial and Market access leadership from Affiliate through Region and Area to International HQ
This role plays a key role in several of AbbVie’s key financial processes from monthly S&OP meetings to annual Plan and Long-range planning cycles, responsible for accurate and timely tracking the price reimbursement and access performance and status of our strategic brands, development of plan and LRP price guidance for strategic and material brands within their therapy areas, alongside clear analytics, and causality for International price variances across the portfolio of assets within their therapy areas.
This position reports to the Director, Strategic Pricing Immunology in International Market Access and Pricing (iMAP).
Core Job Responsibilities: Responsible for:
- Anticipate and Shape External Environment
- Evaluate & integrate new pricing approaches & Access models to optimize the value of our assets and drive broad and timely patient access in all markets ’segments, and support affiliates with identification of appropriate advocacy and policy objectives to support the implementation of these new access models.
- Ensure IAS includes appropriate disease level advocacy and policy objectives that if implemented may positively impact the price potential of EVEMA brands.
- Drive and Influence Strategies Internally, achieving Business Goals through:
Strategic Pricing
- Utilize the Strategic Pricing Framework to establish price potential of key brands and assets in their scope and advise value and access team on opportunities to improve /accelerate patient access across key International markets.
- Define pricing hypothesis, and conduct scenario analysis, identifying appropriate risk-mitigation strategies to be assessed, supporting the development of the integrated access strategy and pricing guidance, in collaboration with IMAP VAT lead, HTA lead, Area Market Access Therapy Area Leads, key markets/LBUs access teams, brand teams, Finance, DSG and other relevant key stakeholders.
- Inform and shape the integrated access strategy to ensure reflection of the asset price potential and implications, by proactively engaging and contributing through existing governed processes or decision forums (eg pipeline commercialization model/VAT) for a range of on market and pipeline assets.
- Develop short and long-term International pricing guidance over the asset lifecycle (e.g. early price range, late-stage price potential, pricing corridors & guidance), in line with the corporate strategy, brand vision, Integrated Access Strategy and asset value, in close collaboration with the iMAP VAT access lead, HTA lead and broader VAT.
- Create contracting guidance, to mitigate access risks and payer objections within the negotiation pathway, including evaluation of new access models. Ensuring that we assess the potential access models in the context of macroeconomic policy dynamics, healthcare system and infrastructure trends, pricing & reimbursement policy developments, innovative access models, and access stakeholder evolution.
- Contribute to the identification of asset access value drivers and drive incorporation of health care system dynamics including evaluation of traditional and innovative pricing & access models that enable achieving favorable reimbursement and address health care system affordability issues (e.g., payment models, funding mechanisms, innovation, alternative access programs/pathways.
- Develop asset indication sequence and/or country launch sequence optimization and Geo Strategy recommendations, in close collaboration with the IMAP VAT lead, the HTA lead, and other key partners.
- Responsible for collaborating with MABI to conduct primary and secondary pricing market research using appropriate methodologies aligned with the Strategic Pricing Framework (e.g., qualitative, and quantitative pricing research using value justifiable, willingness to pay, cost benefit, affordability methods), and engage with external experts, to inform the development of the International pricing strategy and guidance. Responsible for providing appropriate subject matter expertise and selection of appropriate methodological approach to be used in the conduct of qualitative/quantitative pricing analyses.
- Ensuring support to key markets/LBUs to translate International Pricing Strategy to local launch success by effectively providing support in the localization of the Integrated Access Strategy including price potential, scenarios and negotiation strategies and mitigation plans, for national and sub-national price negotiations, guiding local team to leverage the identified value drivers, economic tools/pricing value story/objection handling and tools.
- Maintain a good knowledge base of the International pricing and access landscape for the multiple therapy areas within their scope and proactively identify areas of opportunity from a competitive, pricing, and commercial opportunity perspective.
Operational Pricing
- Ensure compliance and monitoring of International pricing governance process for their on-market brands.
- Ensuring fully compliant practices, policies, and procedures regarding pricing data handling and reporting.
- Coordinating and ensuring appropriate review and approval of pricing business cases across their Brands and responsible for business case preparation prior to the by the International & Global Executive Pricing Councils, in line with the International pricing governance and supporting robust business decision.
- Provide accurate and timeline pricing information, across pricing and finance processes (ESOP, Plan, LRP) including collation of collating of pricing assumptions and causality with areas/affiliates.
- Create and implement and roll out plans (communication, training) for pricing guidance as a part of the Integrated Access Strategy and financial processes (Plan and LRP communications),
- Serves as an internal Subject Matter Expert on strategic & operational pricing and analytics, providing where necessary training to the organization on strategic pricing or analytical approaches.
- Work in collaboration with International Pricing analyst in running International Reference Price and cross-country/region impact analysis to inform LRP, PLN and business cases.
- Work in collaboration with the International Pricing analysts in undertaking and interpretation revenue maximizing country launch sequence optimization analysis.

Essential:
- Proven track record and experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry including understanding of finance, pricing, health economics or market access, with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated appropriate level of AbbVie leadership attributes and behaviors, this role requires high levels of competence, confidence, and credibility.
- Ability to synthetize, critically analyze, efficiently communicate large volumes of information, develop identify risks, recommendations and implement solutions is required.
- Excellent English communication skills (both oral and written and ability to consistently provide clear and concise written and verbal communication, excellent presentation skills.
- Ability to manage workload to meet critical deadlines under challenging time constraints.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make decisions without a full data set and deal efficiently and effectively with ambiguity and uncertainty.
Desired:
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in the following aspects: designing or implementing International pricing strategies and scenario assessments.
- Designing and implementing integrated market access strategies and payer value proposition.
- Experience interacting with P&R agencies and knowledge of top key markets health care systems and/or pricing regulations with a focus on our high impact markets of Germany, Canada, China, Japan alongside our large business unites in Australia, France, Italy, Spain & the UK) is highly desirable.
- Understanding of Health Technology Appraisal and the fundamentals of Health Economics utilized in terming value of medicines from a payer viewpoint.
- Ability to communicate value drivers supporting pricing initiatives and their impact on business; ability to communicate financial impact of pricing initiatives on overall business objectives are required.
- Ability to understand data management and reporting with a basic awareness of the possible technology platforms and solutions that can be leveraged.
- BA, BSc in Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics, Health Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics, Pharmacy, or any other related scientific field.
