Reporting to the Director of Business Insights, the Associate Director, Business Insights (BI) Lead will function as a key partner with the Clinical Development Operations (CDO) Leadership and Extended Leadership team, as well as other functions across R&D proactively reviewing and identifying internal and external trends to drive business value and actionable insights. The BI Lead monitors these trends and identifies underlying leading / lagging clinical trial performance indicators, ultimately creating fit-for-purpose recommendations to senior leadership. This role will work across the Clinical Trial Management Ecosystem (CTME) and Data Visualization team to continuously enhance the existing ecosystem, driving cross-functional alignment with R&D business functions and with Business Technology Solutions (BTS). Requires frequent interaction with Sr. Leadership and cross-functional management to influence key decisions that impact AbbVie’s ecosystem. Will lead critical cross-functional initiatives that will enable the transformation of Clinical Development Operations.
- Partner with CDO VPs, TA Heads, Sr. Directors to proactively identify trending and review analytics to drive action steps, while leading cross-functional teams
- Communicate context, insights and objective analysis to CDO LT and other R&D Leaders throughout the organization to support decision making.
- Support CDO LT in planning, organizing, implementing, and maintaining strategies and initiatives
- Present key findings and insights at executive leadership meetings and follow up with additional analysis as required, anticipating/identifying issues that could affect timelines or quality and develops options and solutions
- With input from relevant stakeholders, maintain and evolve existing processes for gathering, summarizing, and distributing relevant industry benchmarks / trends relevant to AbbVie’s pipeline.
- Together with the Data Science & Analytics team, develop reporting and new ways to measure trends to monitor Tier 1 and 2 Clinical Study KPIs, as well as leading / lagging indicators on improvement projects that support the transformation of becoming a data-centric organization.
- Provides strategic direction across system owners, ensuring integrity of the data and the systems used to support AbbVie’s clinical trials
- Anticipates emerging technology/methodology needs that can support the utilization of our data to produce efficiencies and create new value proposition
- Conduct ad-hoc short-term consulting projects to answer critical questions from leadership
- Ensures consistency on insight generation and analysis across therapeutic areas; however, customize as per the nuances across TAs
- Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific or business field in statistics, mathematics with previous experience working directly in a clinical setting
- 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical with knowledge of clinical trials, clinical trials process and technology, analytics-related; fewer years of experience will be considered if the candidate(s) have advanced degrees (PhD, MBA, Masters of Statistics preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and analytical skills. Demonstrated history of successful execution in a fast-paced environment and in managing multiple priorities effectively
- Strong effective communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate analytical and technical concepts in layman’s terms
- Demonstrated ability to influence Sr. Executives and cross-functional leaders
- Requires multi-faceted, broad-based experience in multiple functions. Considered to have in depth knowledge of drug development issues and business need
- Intermediate-level proficiency in R, SAS or other statistical packages, as well as intermediate proficiency with visualization tools like Spotfire, Tableau or equivalent
Preferred:
- 1+ years consulting experience at a management consulting firm focused on life sciences
- Advanced degrees – MBA, PhD, Master of Statistics / Mathematics
- Deep knowledge in drug development, clinical research

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
