Job Description

The Associate Director serves as the primary strategic and trusted partner to the organization, developing HR strategies, helping to shape our culture, support our business strategies and finding and developing the talent necessary to make a remarkable impact on AbbVie and patients around the world. This role is responsible for leveraging best-in-class HR practices to continually construct, deliver, and support programs that establish AbbVie as an employer of choice while empowering all employees at all levels of the organization. They will serve as a strategic partner for top leaders in multiple areas of focus in R&D Development Sciences, developing HR strategies, needs assessments, and resulting HR solutions for a global organization.

The Development Sciences organization continues to evolve in the vision of turning science into medicines and focuses heavily on the development of one of the most critical assets, its people. As such, this role is a key partner in enabling the necessary resources and support to drive the global business and HR strategies. We are seeking a passionate leader to help us define and implement the HR strategy through coaching, leadership development, succession planning, talent management and more.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Human Resources Partner to senior leaders/Vice Presidents within of The Development Sciences organization.
  • Serving as the primary strategic partner to the business leaders and their global organization, developing HR strategies, needs assessments and resulting HR solutions. Coach/mentor and consult senior leaders for leadership development, succession planning, and talent management.
  • Responsibility for ensuring the effective delivery of all HR programs and services. Responsible for HR results in the business, including client satisfaction, HR effectiveness and associated financial results.
  • Establishing, building, and maintaining strong relationships with key HR partners from all Practice Areas and Service Centers to ensure elements of HR are successfully coordinated to meet business needs, including relationship management, leadership, HR roles/responsibilities, and service delivery commitments.
  • Utilizing competency model and assessment tools to conduct manager talent assessments and deliver reports to detail potential motivators and areas of improvement to support talent development.
  • Acting as ambassador of the HR organization to represent the services and resources available to the business and help manage the collective reputation of the HR organization.
  • Assisting or leading proposals and recommendations to resolve strategically important issues affecting a business segment.
  • Managing and leveraging human and financial resources within scope of delivered project services while supporting a segment of the business. Facilitating and implementing change and ensuring that day-to-day activities are moving forward.
  • Managing delivery of HR services across a segment of the business. Ensuring the appropriate amount of resource planning is accounted for by the Practice and Service Centers to support the needs of the respective business segment.
  • Understanding and utilizing historical and broad organizational data when weighing business HR decisions and actions. Utilizing ability to identify trends and new approaches in HR and developing new approaches to business processes. Responsibility for initiatives and changes to current business processes and must have a clear linkage with other organizational efforts being proposed or already ongoing in the respective business.
  • Assisting in the diagnosis, development and delivery of HR strategies, programs and services that influence and drive the needs of the respective business. Utilizing skills in data analysis and survey results analysis to help generate insights around talent, culture, and engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required. Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • 8+ years relevant experience required. Experience supporting a global business and partnering with international based business leaders and HR colleagues.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting the business.
  • Project management or business experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of organizational development activity preferred.
  • Significant breadth of understanding of functional HR roles and responsibilities and impact on the business.
  • Re-organizational experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience creating structural hierarchy strongly preferred.
  • Open to future global assignments and positions outside of the U.S.
  • Significant depth of knowledge of critical success factors and challenges for a major business segment.

  • This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days onsite per week

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​
