Purpose
AbbVie is seeking an Associate Director, Brand Partnerships Communications to help shape and execute integrated partnership and communications initiatives that elevate AbbVie’s brand, strengthen stakeholder connections, and drive business objectives. This newly created, high-visibility role will sit at the intersection of corporate brand partnerships, media relations and corporate communications, developing compelling stories and earned media opportunities that bring AbbVie Corporate partnerships to life across priority audiences.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and strong communicator who can partner across functions, manage agency and partner relationships, and translate partnership activity into meaningful narratives across paid, earned, shared and owned content that build awareness and favorability for AbbVie key external audiences. This role requires deep collaboration, strong project management, and the ability to proactively develop and execute all aspects of communications for AbbVie’s corporate brand partnerships. This role will also entail proactive identification and execution of additional corporate enterprise earned media opportunities to further protect and enhance AbbVie’s reputation.
This candidate will be part of our Corporate Affairs organization and report to the Director, Corporate Communications and Media Relations and will work closely with the Corporate Marketing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on internal and external communications around key moments for AbbVie’s corporate partnerships, including announcements, activations, and major milestones
Develop and implement proactive earned media strategies tied to corporate brand partnerships, sponsorships, special events, and other enterprise initiatives
- Partner closely with Corporate Brand Partnerships team, agency and properties to advance annual planning and activation for brand partnership portfolio, including Chicago Cubs, Major League Baseball and future partners
- Support the development of short- and long-term storytelling strategies that connect corporate brand partnerships to AbbVie’s broader reputation and business goals, for both employee and external audiences
- Identify compelling stories, messages, and moments that can be amplified through earned media, social media, influencers, executive communications, and partnership activations
- Partner with internal stakeholders to shape narratives around corporate partnerships that also demonstrate AbbVie’s brand, values, and strategic priorities
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media partners, and key external stakeholders to strengthen AbbVie’s reputation and visibility as it relates to corporate brand partnerships and broader enterprise storytelling opportunities
- Contribute to internal strategy documents and presentations that articulate the value of partnership-led storytelling
- Track ongoing storytelling and media initiatives to ensure alignment, follow-through, and visibility to leadership
- Partner with Corporate Affairs colleagues to identify high-impact media opportunities and advise on appropriate media engagement for additional proactive, enterprise storytelling opportunities
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, journalism or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in communications and media relations, with a proven track record of driving successful external communications initiatives for large, global companies, with either agency or in-house experience
- Healthcare/pharmaceutical experience a plus but not required
- Proven track record of performance leading comprehensive communications in the sports and entertainment vertical for a large corporation a plus but not required
- Demonstrated ability to partner with and develop materials for senior leaders, influence without authority, and navigate complexities in a matrixed environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Strong business acumen and professional judgement
- Effective management skills with an ability to anticipate company and team needs
- A proactive, highly organized self-starter with an interest and ability to learn quickly and take ownership of projects

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of thisposting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location,and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

Pay Range: $
141500 - 268500 USD
Where We Work
Role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely*, following the policies and regulations in place at their location. US Employees must be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Three days in the office is the minimum; some individuals or teams may require more in-office days due to meetings, business/project needs or their role.
