Job Description

We currently require an Scientist II (S&T) to join our talented and ambitious Bioassay team on a fixed term 3 year contract. In this role you will lead and support (as required) the transfer and validation of new assays introduced to the Westport site and continuous improvement of the existing bioassay methods. 

In this role you will act as the Technical expert that will independently investigate, identify, develop and optimize new methods/ techniques to address critical project needs. Continuously seek to improve existing laboratory methods and processes. Read and adapt literature to accomplish assignments. Demonstrate mastery of broad range of experimental techniques and methods of data analysis

In your new role, you will: 

  • Independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.
  • Understand the broad objectives of the project as well as their role in achieving those objectives, and modify experimental plan when required, to respond.
  • Innovate and implement new experimental protocols.
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in his/her field.
  • Set and meet experimental timelines. Impact projects mostly through lab and/or pilot plant based activities where applicable.
  • Learn, understand and master new experimental techniques, and act as a resource or mentor for others.
  • Academic collaborations, develop best in class assay, Clear communication skills. Ability to lead and drive a group to meet timelines. Experience with interacting in project teams at a local/global/corporate level would be desired.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will have the following Education and Experience

  • PhD with 2 years experience, BS or equivalent education with typically 7 or more years of experience or MS or equivalent education in relevant Biological Field with typically 5 or more years of experience.
  • Mammalian cell culture experience
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques
  • Ability to multitask and work within timelines.
  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills
