2026 Biologics Analytical Research & Development Intern Overview

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

The Biologics Analytical Research & Development Intern will support the Advanced Instrumentation and Mass Spectrometry analytical team focused on the application and development of state-of-the-art MS methodologies for the characterization and quantitation of novel drug modalities. The intern will have an opportunity to make an impact through the conception and optimization of new techniques, separation modalities, and automation strategies as they apply to the testing, development, and structure/function elucidation of modern biopharmaceuticals. This is a great opportunity for exposure to current techniques and challenges in the industry.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop a new hyphenated MS / automation / bioinformatics method applicable to biopharmaceutical drugs.
  • Present development results and findings at an internal conference at the conclusion of the internship

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other related field
  • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship
  • Scientifically curious with strong communication, collaboration, and adaptability skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expected graduation date between December 2026 – June 2027
  • Exposure to protein separations, structure elucidation, proteomics
  • Exposure to LCMS software and/or strong interest to learn more
  • Experience with Liquid Chromatography (HPLC, UPLC, etc.)
  • Experience with lab automation and data analysis tools (R, Python, etc.)
