Job Description

Genetic Medicine Preformulation Development Internship Overview

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

Genetic medicines are increasingly becoming viable therapeutic options for various diseases that cannot be targeted by traditional drug modalities. Whether it involves suppressing genes, enhancing their function, or modifying them, the delivery of genetic medicine typically requires either a viral or non-viral delivery system to achieve the desired therapeutic effect. At AbbVie, genetic medicines are a growing area of focus, which necessitates a greater understanding of their clinical drug product development. However, drug product preformulation development of genetic medicines poses challenges due to the limited availability of materials and the complexity of the delivery system. There is an urgent need for detailed analysis of the physicochemical stability of genetic medicines to facilitate efficient screening and development of drug products. Additionally, it is crucial to thoroughly investigate the mechanisms that stabilize these drugs to facilitate the development of improved formulations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate the critical impacts of development relevant stress conditions on genetic medicine stabilities.
  • Investigate the mechanisms by which genetic medicine modalities can be stabilized by formulation excipients through characterization of high order structure.

This internship position will be based in Worcester, MA.
