The AbbVie EXCEL Externship Overview
The AbbVie EXCEL Externship is a two-day, unpaid, immersive experience for 2nd year, undergrad (sophomore) students interested in future internships with AbbVie. Students will join us at AbbVie's Headquarters in Lake County, IL during August 2025 to:
Get immersed in AbbVie’s culture
Gain hands-on experience in a variety of key business areas
Build an extended network of AbbVie representatives, senior leaders, and students from across the country
Participate in cross-functional professional development opportunities
Learn more about AbbVie’s career opportunities
Be considered for an internship for the following summer
AbbVie will provide travel, transportation, and lodging for eligible students.
Finance Overview
The AbbVie Excel Externship in Finance serves as a key talent pipeline for our Finance Internship Program. Externship participants are strongly considered for Internship opportunities within Finance for the following summer.
Our finance team works on meaningful assignments that have a real impact on our business and patients worldwide. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving.
AbbVie offers you an opportunity to work within one of the many finance areas financial sub-function areas, including:
Financial Analysis
Budgets, Plans and Forecasts
Reporting & Controls
Manufacturing Operations Accounting
Minimum Qualifications
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree with an expected graduation date between December 2026 – June 2027.
Majoring in or a strong interest in exploring opportunities in Finance and/or Accounting
Demonstrated utilization of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in academic and/or professional settings.
Demonstrated leadership experience within a school or student organization setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Progress towards successfully completing at least three accounting courses (each with 3 credit hours) by the time of graduation, with one of the courses being focused on cost or managerial accounting.
Dual major or minor in a related field is a plus
Interest or exposure in utilizing systems and tools to visualize and present data in a meaningful way.
Interest or exposure to Big Data to perform robust analytics and predictive modeling.
Currently enrolled in or completion of an accredited Excel or data visualization tool certificate program or course.
Ability to use analytical skills to innovatively solve problems.
Proven track record of working collaboratively in teams, being adaptable, innovative, proactive, and maintaining high ethical standards.
Previous internship or related experience.
Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher preferred
