2024 QTAS In Vitro Intern Overview

The QTAS group supports Discovery and Development Projects by generating in vitro ADME data, pharmacokinetics characterization, prediction of human efficacious dose/pk and drug-drug interactions (DDI) and in vitro to in vivo extrapolations for clinical candidates. QTAS works closely with other disciplines (medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, toxicology etc.) to conduct preclinical studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings. We are looking for a highly motivated student research intern to participate in our internship program. In this role, the intern will gain hands-on experience in the design and conduct of experimental research projects, data analysis, presentation of key scientific findings as well as experience the rich culture of our organization. The selected candidate will gain insight into research approaches related to early drug disposition estimation and support to first-in-human study design. The internship will focus on in-house validation of uptake transporter assay for screening compounds in Discovery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Mammalian cell culture (primary and recombinant).
- Uptake transporter studies (substrate, inhibition, kinetics).
- Hepatocyte uptake studies.
- LC-MS/MS-analysis.
- Estimating tissue clearance, predicting drug-drug interactions potential.
- PBPK modeling and simulations to predict tissue drug exposure and PK-DDI.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD or PharmD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field.
- Completed at least 2 years of graduate level studies prior to start of internship.
- Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
- Strong self-motivation, organized, and ability to work with other team members, towards a common goal.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
- Expected graduation date between December 2024 – July 2025.
- Prior experience with in vitro or in vivo membrane transporter studies (pharmacokinetics/disposition) is a plus.
- Knowledge in ADME/DMPK role in drug development.
- Experience in drug-drug interactions (enzyme/transporters) is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with PBPK modeling (Simcyp/GastroPlus) is a plus.
- Working experience with mammalian cells, enzyme kinetics (non-linear data fitting).
- Data analysis/statistics experience.
