Job Description

2024 In vitro and In silico Dissolution Sciences Internship Overview

The Drug Release and Product Performance group within Small Molecule Analytical Research and Development plays a key role in the understanding of drug release mechanisms for the development of novel oral dosage forms. Under supervision of key members of the team, the Drug Release and Product Performance Intern will primarily support the advancement of our understanding of hydrodynamic effects on drug product performance . The intern will enable the development of a new generation of dissolution apparatuses that provide biorelevant dissolution conditions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identify key method parameters that impact drug product dissolution kinetics through literature and hydrodynamics analysis.
  • Develop and/or apply fluid dynamics principles to support a hypothesis driven experimental plan to develop novel dissolution apparatus designs.
  • Lead the execution of in vitro experiments and in silico modeling to advance the fundamental concepts in support of the role of fluid dynamics in drug product performance.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications  

Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Chemical Engineering or other related field.

Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.

Ability to conduct and interpret scientific experiments, providing suggestions for additional experiments, including design and development of new apparatus configurations.

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Expected graduation date between December 2024 – July 2025.
  • Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or part of a team.
  • Troubleshoot experiments and identify/solve elementary problems in experimental designs, including laboratory experimentation.
  • Proficient in programming languages: Python, R, MATLAB.
  • Knowledgeable in computational fluid dynamic concepts and high performance cluster computing.
  • Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
