Job Description

2024 GRC Computational Genomics Intern Overview

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

This internship opportunity is in the Computational Genomics group of the Genomics Research Center which plays a key role in using innovative bioinformatic data analysis to generate actionable insights for AbbVie’s therapeutic areas by leveraging omics data at scale. Under the supervision of senior scientists in the group, the intern will internalize and harmonize public cell painting data with GRC-generated data to create a relational cellular phenotyping map. Cell painting is an image based morphological profiling assay that can be used to classify related cellular phenotypes to elucidate drugs’ MOA or gene targets with unknown function. Given that interpretation of cell painting data is most robust at scale, success of this effort depends on being able to leverage and interpret large cell painting data sets together.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the data internalization of relevant public cell painting datasets identified from literature review.
  • Functional harmonization of public and internal cell painting datasets such that data can be visualized, and future internal data can be easily integrated.
  • Bioinformatic analysis of harmonized data to identify meaningful relationships across the full dataset.
