Drug Product Development Internship Overview

The Drug Product Development Intern will support the formulation development of protein biologics in the Drug Product Development (DPD) group. This position requires laboratory work. The intern must conduct all work activities in compliance with AbbVie internal and applicable regulatory requirements. AbbVie internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements, and objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Surfactant screening and characterization (surface tension assessment and pyrene-based fluorescence CMC determination)
- Formulation preparation
- Exposing protein formulations to stress (expose the formulation to manufacture and storage-related stresses)
- Protein stability evaluation
- Actively interact with the DPD team members, generate high-quality data based on sound scientific principles, write technical reports, and work on scientific presentations
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Sciences, Biochemistry, or other related field.
- Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expected graduation date between August 2024 – July 2025.
- Prior experience in analytical techniques such as surface tensiometry, size exclusion chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, fluorescence spectrophotometry, ELISA, and RP-HPLC is highly desirable.
