Computational Pathology Internship Overview

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

The graduate intern will work within the computational pathology team to assist scientists on the development of machine learning approaches and refinement of existing image analysis tools. The intern will aid in the discovery and implementation of novel biomarkers across a variety of diseases.

Key responsibilities include:

·        Utilize cutting edge technology for the analysis of images or similar data derived from a variety of imaging modalities and platforms

·        Devise machine learning approaches to develop image analysis solutions for biomarker discovery in oncology, cancer immunotherapy, or immunology

·        Help develop and validate AI model(s) that use feature embeddings to predict molecular/gene signatures from histopathology whole slide images

·        Compile data and present at internal meetings

Minimum Qualifications  

·        Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a  Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or other related field

·        Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship

·        Expected graduation date between December 2024 – July 2025

·        Strong expertise in developing and validating machine learning and AI techniques for image-like data

·        Programming experience (python/MATLAB/C/C++)

·        Experience using high performance compute clusters to train and deploy deep models

·        Experience with statistics and data analysis/visualization of multi-dimensional data

Preferred Qualifications

·        Experience working with microscopy images – bright field and dark field (optional) or with high resolution/large images and file formats

·        Experience using digital pathology tools such as Halo, VisioPharm, QuPath, OpenSlide etc.
