Sr Scientist / Principal Research Scientist, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

We are seeking an immunologist with knowledge and experience in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) to join our translational immunology group. This is a growth position for an individual with solid bench skills looking to work with big data sets while progressing their career towards management and scientific business strategy in the pharmaceutical industry. You will be working in a team environment, focusing on identifying new targets through computational analysis of SLE patient tissue-derived datasets and validation of targets using in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches. You will be expected to independently drive collaborative projects that support the AbbVie immunology pipeline and clinical trials. This position requires a broad scientific knowledge base, motivation and passion for bringing good drugs to market, and the ability to perform as an independent contributor in a collaborative team environment. Starting title will be commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identification and validation of novel targets for the treatment of inflammatory conditions.
  • Development of strategic plans to guide the selection and prioritization of identified targets.
  • Generate proof of concept data supporting target Go/No Go decisions using in vitro and in vivo platforms.
  • Experience with in vitro and/or in vivo immune models is required.
  • Planning and coordination of experiments with internal and external team members.
  • Analysis and presentation of study data, providing scientific interpretations and recommendations in lab meetings and project team meetings.
  • Maintaining accurate and well-organized records and laboratory notebooks.
  • Supporting development of protocols, study reports, and data presentations.
  • Aptitude communicating in a virtual environment and a hybrid office/virtual setting
Qualifications:

Requirements:

    •  
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Immunology/Biological Sciences or in a related discipline with typically 10-14+ (BS), 8-12+ (MS) or 0-6+ (PhD) years of experience.
    • Position will be hired based on level of experience.
  • Expertise in the study of systemic lupus erythematosus – research experience preferred, clinical experience will be considered
  • Experience driving projects independently or as a team lead with clear readouts of success including publications, pipeline progression, or go/no-go decisions
  • Experience executing in vitro functional assays using human and rodent cells

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, or other large datasets
  • Experience executing rodent or other animal models of autoimmune disease
  • Experience with 3D assays, organoids, and/or organ-on-chip models
  • Leadership or management experience in a lab group setting
  • Strong scientific curiosity with a passion for problem-solving and optimization.
  • Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment. 
  • Effectively communicate cross-functionally with team members throughout the organization
