Summary:

The Information Research East organization at AbbVie supports pharmaceutical R&D scientists at our Worcester and Cambridge MA sites for their software and data analytics needs. This position offers the opportunity to work in a cross functional team of scientists and IT professionals solving challenging problems at the interface of software, lab hardware and IT infrastructure to drive the digital transformation of our laboratories.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate with a background in scientific laboratory IT systems (LIMS, SDMS, CDS, etc) or lab instrument software. A successful candidate is one who can work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team to: 1) quickly diagnose and solve complex problems; 2) drive lab IT implementation projects including requirements gathering and testing; 3) help define strategies and operating models around information technology supporting scientific research.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Consults with scientific partners to develop understanding of the varied and complex business needs supported by the systems.  Responsible for determining how changing business needs will affect the system.  Understands the role of the system in the big picture and provides ideas and recommendations regarding the evolution of the system.
• Develops detailed business user requirements, system documentation, workflow procedures, and data modeling.  Negotiates plans, time frames and trade-offs while ensuring scientific partners understand the final results of the project.
• Ensures current and accurate system documentation, coordinates and/or performs testing of system modifications, of both validated and non-validated systems.  Provides systems expertise and supports system training, educational tools and materials.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree or equivalent experience plus 5 years technical experience, or Masters degree plus 4 years experience. Will consider 9 years work experience in related technical roles.

• Must be able to effectively lead and facilitate meetings with customers and technical team members.
• Must be deliverables focused and detail oriented.
• Must exhibit exceptional teamwork skills.
• Must have a strong customer focus.
• Experience in the systems development, implementation, and operations of a large-scale, enterprise systems is preferred.
• Experience working in pharmaceutical industry within R&D organization is preferred.
• Experience working in a laboratory IT role is preferred.
