Senior Scientist I, Purification Process Development
Worcester, Massachusetts Req ID 2210136 Category Research and Development Division AbbVieA Senior Scientist position is available within Purification Process Development Group in Operations Science and Technology at AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester. The group is responsible for developing and supporting downstream manufacturing process for early and late phase clinical biologics programs. We strive for speedy delivery of high quality processes that are high yield with desirable product qualities, cost-effective, manufacturing friendly, and robustness. The group interacts closely with Discovery, Cell Culture Development, Pilot Lab, Protein Analytics, Drug Product Formulation Development, Manufacturing, Quality, and CMC teams. We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative scientist who will make tangible contribution to the continuous improvement and innovation within the organization in delivering innovation therapies to the patients.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop recovery and purification process that utilizes clarification, chromatography, and membrane filtration technologies for recombinant proteins
- Design and execute innovative process development and characterization activities, impurity and viral clearance studies
- Is responsible for technology transfer to scale-up labs and manufacturing facilities, troubleshooting and investigation activities
- Act as lead purification scientist and in some cases also as technical advisor in a project CMC team and collaborate with cross-functional team members to drive the project progress toward milestones
- Address and solve technical problems independently, conceive and implement innovative process research ideas, evaluate and integrate state-of-the-art technology to improve manufacturing platform, pursue deep understanding of the process and product, and demonstrate a high level of scientific initiative
- Author technical report, support and contribute to regulatory filings
- Provide project update and analysis to cross-functional team and management
- Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external conferences
- May author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents
Qualifications:
- BS, MS, or PhD degree in chemical engineering or biochemical engineering or related disciplines
- 10-12+ (BS), 8-10+ (MS), or 0-3+ (PhD) years of experiences in protein purification process development and/or manufacturing support
- Sound scientific understanding of protein separation technologies and ability to explore and develop new approaches to further advance innovative purification technologies desirable
- Experiences in protein chromatography, membrane filtration, mechanistic and process modeling, a plus
- Basic knowledge in related functional areas, such as cell culture, protein chemistry and analytics or formulation, a plus
- Demonstrated record of independent thinking, creativity and scientific accomplishment (e.g., peer-reviewed journal publications, patents)
- Candidate must be a goal-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
