Summary of Job Description (New role):

A director/associate director position is available in Process Development (PD) Group within the Global Technical Operations (GTO) group in AbbVie Operations Singapore (ABS). The Global Technical Operations team has primarily focused on the commercial and CMC support of biologics drug substance processes for AbbVie plants in Singapore. As part of a global biologics network expansion initiative, the ABS GTO is building a NEW group to advance AbbVie’s biotherapeutic early and late phase programs and expand its scope to PD activities such as process optimization and process characterization.


The candidate will lead the ABS PD team to achieve business deliverables per program timelines and drive the long-term vision and sustenance of the team as part of the AbbVie global biologics network. We are seeking an experienced leader with a proven track record in leadership of process development teams/initiatives. The candidate must be a discipline expert in at least one or all aspects of process development with excellent communication, presentation, and organization skills.



The key responsibilities include:

  • Leads a small group of scientists/engineers with BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees, with broad background in upstream and downstream process development and manufacturing support; as well as analytical support for the process development and/or process characterization
  • Integrate the ABS PD team with the current expertise and capabilities of the local GTO team in personnel, workflow, and strategic direction.
  • Achieve cross-site strategic alignment with stakeholders (network PD, manufacturing, quality, and discovery groups) to enable a positive and contributing influence within the global biologics network. Build and maintain strong collaborations with stakeholders
  • Develops, communicates, and implements vision and strategy for the PD group
  • Assembles and develops the resources (time/budget) needed to achieve the team goals
  • Monitors, evaluates, and enhances the performance of group members in the successful completion of their objectives. Anticipates and resolves key project hurdles to meet project timelines despite challenges
  • Builds and mentors high performing work group and proactively develops talent based on AbbVie’s philosophy for talent management.
  • Key interface to Regulatory affairs/CMC and senior management within and across functions. Proactively advises and shares knowledge with senior management to influence business directives to further PD/corporate directives
  • Sets a climate of excellence to assure the use of state-of-the-art practices to achieve practical solutions to climax problem. Champions novel and impactful technical innovations
  • Lead external collaborations or multi-discipline project teams
  • Competent author and reviewer of key regulatory filings, technical reports, protocols, and other key documents. Effective communicator with high ability to influence and drive complex decision making in multi-disciplinary forums
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, documentation, safety, appropriate handling of materials, and GxP compliance.

The candidate will be hired at a position based on experience and expertise


  • Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical or Biochemical Engineering or related fields.
  • Ph.D. with 8-10+ years of relevant experience
  • Outstanding record of accomplishments in areas of process development
  • Proven track record in scientific leadership including engagement with upper management
  • Broad and extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in at least one or all aspects of process development
  • Highly experienced, motivated and team-oriented individual that can independently drive technology and business programs to achieve deliverables with incremental performance
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong scientific curiosity with a passion for problem solving and optimization. Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task. Strong organizational, planning and trouble-shooting skills
