Director, Internal Investigations

The position leads, conducts and/or oversees internal investigations relating to alleged violations of the AbbVie Code of Business Conduct (and other policies and procedures) and legal or regulatory requirements by:  (1) reviewing facts and analyzing legal and policy requirements; (2) working independently and with cross-functional teams to investigate allegations; (3) providing investigative findings to a variety of stakeholders; and (4) making recommendations to leadership, as well as corporate management and other stakeholders, regarding preventative and corrective actions.  The position will also monitor various activities across the organization and participate in compliance-focused projects to ensure effective compliance controls and identify compliance enhancements.


Key responsibilities

Responsible for investigating allegations relating to compliance with the AbbVie Code of Conduct and policies and procedures, as well as legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Independently manages investigations potentially involving complex issues.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to personnel performing investigations at OEC’s direction.
  • Ensures that investigations are completed in a fair, thorough and timely manner, applying sound judgment to all investigations and conclusions.
  • Conducts periodic risk assessments and live and transaction-based monitoring.
  • Assigned matters have a significant impact on the compliance program.
  • Communicates and interacts with employees and managers at all levels of the organization, often influencing important decision-making and corrective actions.
  • Operates with autonomy and limited supervision.
  • Ability to learn, understand and guide without bias to bring the best solution or alternatives that supports an effective compliance program.
  • Has the ability to handle more than one project at a time, constantly shifting priorities.
  • Persistent and resilient when confronted with obstacles.
  • Drives ethics and compliance awareness and at all levels within the Region by participating in the development of compliance projects, training and awareness campaigns.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Fluency in writing and speaking Mandarin and English are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrates high level of ethics and integrity. Leads by example.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior management and stakeholders across the company.
  • Preferred 7-10+ years’ experience with, or exposure to, the pharmaceutical or life sciences industryWell-versed in applicable external guidelines and laws covering healthcare professional and patient interactions.
  • Must have extensive experience questioning witnesses in an investigation, deposition, or similar setting.
  • Experience with, or exposure to, business functions such as compliance, legal, regulatory affairs, government affairs, and finance.
  • BA/BS required. CPA, Master's, JD, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Builds strong relationships with peers and cross-functionally with partners outside of the team to enable higher performance.
  • Learns, fast, grasps the 'essence' and can change the course quickly where necessary.
  • Has the ability to handle more than one project at a time, constantly shifting priorities.
  • Persistent and resilient when confronted with obstacles.
  • Travel, including international travel, up to 30%.
