Scientist I/II, New Biological Entities ARD

AbbVie Analytical Research & Development (Analytical R&D) is a global analytical sciences organization responsible for all CMC analytical activities related to the development of AbbVie's pharmaceutical products. Our scope includes AbbVie's diverse pipeline of innovative small molecule and therapeutic biologic medicines and spans from the selection of Discovery candidate molecules through the transition of analytical methods and testing to commercial labs to support product launch. The new biologic entities (NBE) analytical development group develops state-of-the-art analytical techniques for the characterization of antibody drug conjugates (ADC) and other novel biologic molecules using mass spectrometry and other advanced analytical techniques. We are looking for diverse candidates with strong scientific and leadership experience to join the AbbVie Analytical R&D team and can offer exciting and rewarding career opportunities for these candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively function as a technical expert that will independently investigate, identify, develop and optimize new methods and techniques to address critical project needs. Continuously seek to improve existing methods and processes while demonstrating a mastery of a broad range of experimental techniques.
- Independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer key scientific questions.
- Demonstrate a high level or proficiency in his/her field, with the ability to innovate and implement new experimental protocols.
- Organize and present scientific plans and data to relevant stakeholders, and able to multitask and to deliver on project timelines.
- Must be able to adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials and GxP compliance.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related discipline with 5-7+ years of relevant experience, or an M.S. degree with 2-5+ years of relevant experience. Practical experience and strong knowledge of modern liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry techniques as applied to protein analysis.
- Maintain a laboratory notebook in compliance with Good Laboratory/Manufacturing Practices.
- Demonstrate ability to independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer key scientific questions to advance programs.
- Must possess a solid understanding of protein chemistry and biochemistry, particularly as related to biologics drug development.
- Strong data and time organization/management skills coupled with strong interpersonal and effective communication skills for facilitating collaborations.
- Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques, while being able to multitask and operate within timelines.
- Experience with automation, Machine Learning, or Artificial Intelligence-based workflows is preferred.
