Principle Research Scientist I/II, Formulation Sciences S&T
North Chicago, Illinois Req ID 2202796 Category Research and Development Division AbbVie- Direct research and/or project activities and professional development of a group of scientists within the individual’s area of expertise by effectively mentoring, guiding and/or supervising scientific personnel. Independently conceive, execute and communicate multi-disciplinary development strategies that achieve project and area goals. Serve as a lead scientist on his/her own project and contribute scientific insights into multiple other projects.
- Develops and achieves discipline strategy in alignment with functional goals and key scientific objectives. Collaborates with experts within function to integrate scientific objectives into activities associated with development of new/improved products or technology.
- Advances scientific expertise within function. Proactively demonstrates leadership by advises and shares knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, and senior management. Mentors and trains functional colleagues and assesses current and emerging business challenges enabling functional goal achievement.
- Ensures quality and effectiveness of key results of major project plans within function through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of fallback strategies.
- Sources and identifies emerging scientific trends from multiple internal and external sources and assess relevance. Integrates trends into functional short-term objectives. Advances cross-discipline technology and direction through generation of data.
- Applies imagination and innovation by creating, inventing, and implementing new or better approaches, alternatives and breakthrough ideas that are valued by customers within the function.
- Presents scientific concepts and results for functional scientific and non-scientific leaders as well as potential and existing partners. Maximizes impact and value of expertise.
- Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education in Engineering or Pharmaceutical Science with typically 14-16 years of related work; Master’s Degree or equivalent education in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Pharmaceutics, Engineering, or related fields with typically 12-14 years of related work; PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Pharmaceutics or related fields with 6-10 years of related work experience.
- Experience in developing, optimizing and troubleshooting solid oral dosage formulations, including immediate/modified release, amorphous solid dispersions, and related process unit operations such as granulation, extrusion, milling, compression and coating.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a principle investigator, generating original technical ideas and research or development strategies.
- Demonstrate creative 'out of the box' thinking to solve difficult technical problems and champion new technologies to achieve project goals.
- Recognized and sought out as an expert in his/her discipline within the company and possibly externally.
- Experienced and demonstrated success as primary author of publications, presentations, regulatory documents and/or primary inventor of patents.
- Demonstrated scientific communication and presentation skills by presenting at leading scientific conferences.
