AbbVie’s global Information Research (IR) group has a mission to unlock information that makes cures possible. Within IR, the Data Solutions team works with scientists to provide data management and decision support tools to optimize the efficiency and efficacy of research and development at AbbVie.

Description

The Data Scientist I position is a critical role for AbbVie within the Data Solutions department. This position independently identifies, develops, and optimizes new business technology solutions to address critical business needs within the Drug Discovery organization through data capture, data integration, data visualization and analysis of large and complex data sets.  Key responsibilities include implementing new tools by which scientific data can be captured, analyzed, and visualized. This opportunity offers the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate – ability to communicate with data scientists to understand existing workflows
  • Build – through your own efforts and by working with scientists, implement custom solutions/processes that connect data and systems and foster the growing AbbVie data integration environment
  • Support – provide solutions to performance related issues and work with downstream systems to support data driven demands
  • Adaptability – given our diverse mission you should be able to move fluidly between different project responsibilities
  • Breadth – as a talented and motivated Data Scientist, you can contribute independently to a wide variety of missions related to enhancing drug development
  • Evolve- maintain and develop existing tools connecting data platforms and technologies
  • Consult- provide insight and assistance with ETL processes
  • Learn- understand and master new methods and technologies
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 5 years’ experience in Data science, Data analytics, Bioinformatics, Software engineering or equivalent field. Master’s degree preferred (with minimum of 2 years’ experience)
  • Proficiency in Python is required
  • Proficiency in data wrangling, data architecture and developing data pipelines
  • Advanced SQL skills (basic queries, table creation, views, and reporting) strongly preferred
  • Background in life sciences and work experience in the bio-pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred
  • Previous experience with pipeline software (RapidMiner, Knime or Pipeline Pilot) preferred
  • Technical capabilities to build dashboards, visualizations, and analyses using standard tool sets (Spotfire, Power BI or Qlik, etc.) preferred
  • Knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques
  • Working knowledge of drug discovery process
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and quantitative skills
  • Demonstrated history of successful execution in a fast-paced environment and in managing multiple priorities effectively
