AbbVie is seeking a full-time Associate Director, Communications, Governance and Operations, Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EEDI) to support advancing the EEDI strategy and priorities for the company. This position will implement, oversee and sustain key components of the EEDI strategy and approach by overseeing governance and project planning as well as providing a consistent cadence for updates and report outs. This position will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including EEDI, Human Resources and Communications, to help execute our strategic imperatives across the business. This role will also support the communications development and implementation of key communication deliverables to achieve expected business outcomes.





Major Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement systems to organize, communicate, and manage key priorities and projects.
  2. Implement, oversee and sustain key components of the EEDI strategy and approach, including project planning and providing a consistent cadence for updates and report outs.
  3. Execute EEDI communications strategies to deliver on business objectives and outcomes.
  4. Manage day-to-day communications, reviews, operations and project management, executing upon our strategic imperatives across the business.
  5. Draft key content and communications to engage employees, leaders and other key stakeholders through compelling writing and delivery.
  6. Act as liaison with Employee Resource Group leader for communications alignment and coordination, including branding and social media.
  7. Support team planning logistics as needed.
  8. Coordinate with internal stakeholders including Human Resource Communications and Corporate Communications, to ensure employee communications are coordinated and delivered most effectively to the greatest readership and drive employee engagement.
  9. Ability to work with confidential information, good judgement/decision-making and organizational skills are critical to the success of this position.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Relations, Integrated Marketing, Communications, Journalism or equivalent.
  • Eight plus years of relevant experience and proven track record of success in managing employee communications initiatives that protect corporate reputation, citizenship, crisis planning and company values.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with knowledge of emerging communications trends and technologies.
  • Strong project management and planning skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to anticipate company and team needs.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment under deadlines with competing priorities with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Experience working in diversity and inclusion programs within large organizations/institutions with a passion for efforts in this field.
  • DEI Certification strongly preferred.
