Procurement Specialist Iberia (Spain & Portugal)

The primary function of Procurement Specialist is to close in Site expenditure decisions, once the best vendor to supply the service/material has been selected. The role acts as liaison between Procurement Dept., requestors, internal stakeholders and vendors, to ensure that Procurement processes and projects are delivered successfully. Sr. Procurement Specialist engages with Category Managers, Procurement Manager and supply base to effectively manage supplier relations, assist in negotiating supplier agreements, resolve issues and achieve demonstrable cost saving.

Responsibilities:

•    Implement sourcing strategy: RFI / RFP / RFQ / Pricing Auction. Responsible for running local tenders, aligned with direction from Procurement Manager and respective Category Manager. Finalize all sourcing events documents and reports according to the Procurement guidelines.

•    Negotiating and managing relevant supplier agreements with support from the Legal Team.

  • Develop, reinforce support and apply the Preferred Supplier Network strategy.
  • Seek, develop, and maintain business relationships with suppliers and clients. Support monthly/regular reporting and updates.
  • Assists Requestor’s with Purchase Orders and its modifications, complying with the relevant desktop procedures using operating systems and procurement platforms.
  • Identify, develop, and implement improved and standardized buying practices to ensure adequacy of needs.  Educate requestors on the same tracking and reporting key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.

•    Qualify potential vendors and support the management of possible non conformity issues/litigations with suppliers.

•     Understand existing preferred supplier relationships for certain spend categories and help drive enquiries to these suppliers.

•     Meet regularly with Procurement team, internal customers and support functions to ensure customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

•     Support AbbVie sourcing strategies and obtain client approval of category sourcing strategies.


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.

•     A minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in procurement and sourcing.

•     Mandatory good English knowledge and Portuguese desirable.

•     Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Communication and interpersonal abilities.

•     Knowledge of procurementsystems, i.e., SAP (SRM & ECC), Ariba and e-sourcing tools.

•     Good knowledge of MS Excel, Power Point, Word and Outlook.

•     Experience with writing RFX’s.

Preferred Qualifications

•     Individual must be self-motivated with great follow-up skills and be able to work independently

•     Strong organizational skills required to coordinate and manage multiple cross divisional work process and projects

•     Understanding of procurementpolicy and contracting terminology

     Knowledge on pharmaceutical environment, as well as key indirect categories like; Meetings and Events, Marketing, Consulting & Professional Services, etc.

     Ability to effectively communicate and engage to all team members, stakeholders, leadership and suppliers.
