Marketing Manager I/II, Migraine Portfolio Strategy

The Marketing Manager is a member of the Migraine Marketing team that reports into the Executive Director, Migraine Portfolio Strategy and will be responsible for analyzing and identifying customer insights, leading development and execution of marketing tactics targeting one or more customer segments, driving customer awareness and demand, and providing operational support to the team. This position will engage and collaborate with a cross-functional team including marketing, market access, medical affairs, regulatory, legal, health economics, public affairs, medical and regulatory review, customer experience, and business insights. 


This dynamic and highly visible role requires an individual with excellent marketing skills, critical thinking capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and project management skills. This role must demonstrate the ability to influence and lead with authority cross-functionally to successfully drive the business. Preferably the individual has experience in healthcare / pharmaceutical marketing communications development targeting one or more of the following: consumer and/or healthcare provider and/or payer.


Key Deliverables / Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative and impactful initiatives and tactics that align to the brand and portfolio strategic imperatives to drive an exceptional customer experience, brand differentiation and/or elevated standards of care

  • Partner with Marketing and market research (MABI) colleagues to identify market insights, develop business priorities, craft tactical plans, and establish and monitor project parameters/milestones

  • Lead development and execution of multi-channel integrated marketing campaigns, including vendor/agency, budget, and project management

  • Collaborate cross-functionally through proactive and continuous communication to deliver marketing communications and resources targeting one or more customer segments (eg, consumer, healthcare provider) to expand awareness and drive demand

  • Support non-branded portfolio-level strategic planning and other key initiatives by developing and managing project time and events schedules to ensure dependencies and outputs are delivered and proactively managed holistically

  • Partner with MABI, Advocacy, and Market Access colleagues to build understanding of access issues and opportunities, vet concepts, and shape recommendations for future channel strategy

  • Contribute to AbbVie’s leadership position in migraine

  • Effectively engages and presents recommendations to Marketing and/or Commercial leadership. Interactions focus on top priority projects and influencing strategic decisions. Interacts well with diverse groups and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.

  • Consistently demonstrate AbbVie's Ways of Working and Leadership Attributes

  • Master’s in Business Administration or other advanced degree perferred, but not required

  • Experience crafting multi-channel either consumer or provider marketing campaigns including digital marketing and media channels

  • Experience working with patient advocacy organizations / non-profit organizations and/or efforts focused on patient or healthcare provider engagement

  • Experience managing development of non-branded and branded educational resources for consumers and/or providers

  • Benefits from an understanding of pharmaceutical market access and reimbursement issues

  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation (including PowerPoint) and interpersonal skills required. Ability to communicate concepts and problems in terms that are understandable to all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Excellent leadership, organizational and analytical skills, and strategic thinking as well as strong understanding of the pharmaceutical business

  • 7+ years developing multi-channel Marketing / Marketing communications plans either at a pharmaceutical manufacturer or a healthcare communications agency

  • Self-starter, proactively drives projects toward successful completion and raises the bar vs status quo

  • Experience managing vendors (such as creative agencies, PR agencies), crafting and managing budgets, developing and managing deliverables on time and on/under budget

  • Strong project management experience: crafting detailed time and event schedules (T&Es), shepherding draft marketing materials through medical/legal/regulatory review, keeping project teams aware of and on timelines

  • Experience crafting market research plans and interpreting customer insights toward marketing strategies

  • Demonstrated excellent communication and presentation skills across a variety of organization levels and disciplines, including senior executives

  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills; demonstrates high degree of planning, coordination, and project management; and demonstrates ability to problem solve and resolve conflict with diplomacy

  • Bachelors degree required.


Position will be hired at level commensurate with experience

Significant Work Activities: Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
