We’re seeking a Post-Doc for Molecular Dynamics Modeling in Materials Science and Formulations to join us in using your expertise to improve patients' quality of life.

As part of our Materials Science and Formulation Modeling (MSFM) team, you’ll work closely with local and global teams in Small Molecule Drug Product Development. MSFM team supports formulation and process development through early to late phase with material characterization, scientific understanding, and predictive modeling. As part of your role, you will implement molecular dynamics modeling to routinely support computer-aided design of formulations to meet desired performance attributes such as in-vitro dissolution, bio-accessibility, and thermomechanical properties.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Rigorously test and apply molecular dynamics and coarse-grained applications relevant for polymer science, structures in solutions, and pharmaceutical formulations
  • Implement molecular dynamics (MD) modeling to routinely support design and development of pharmaceutical formulations
  • Work closely with other scientists in the lab to test and validate modeling results
  • Work with other teams to integrate and advance MD modeling applications globally across AbbVie

Who you are:

  • You have a Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, engineering, physics, or a related field
  • You are a computer-aided materials science enthusiast (both in theory and application) who has solid experience with coarse-grained modeling
  • You are a dedicated scientist interested in advancing materials science in pharmaceutical research
  • You are a creative collaborator who enjoys skillful contributions in a cross-functional team setting to enable solving multi-faceted problems
  • You are an excellent communicator and presenter with superb organizational skills
  • You are a self-motivated team player who can independently conduct research
  • You have solid object-oriented programming skills in python with a demonstrated track-record of implementing complex algorithms
  • You have extensive experience in coarse-grained modeling of complex molecular systems
  • You have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • As a global organization, excellent English language skills (both verbal and written) is required, German language skills is a nice to have

Preferred skills and background:

  • Experience with studying structures solutions (liquid or solid)
  • Experience with the systematic creation of coarse-grained models
  • Proficiency with Linux, git, cc++
  • Experience with MD modeling of pharmaceutical formulations
  • Experience in working in pharma lab setting is a plus but not a requirement
