This attorney will be a lead counsel on privacy and data security matters across business areas and jurisdictions.

Responsibilities:

• Strategic and day-to-day legal privacy legal support to all functions (both aesthetics and therapeutics), collaborating with relevant business units, privacy compliance, and legal
• Support the AbbVie privacy compliance office regarding the operation of AbbVie’s global privacy program
• Legal support to monitor and implement changes in data protection laws and regulations
• Legal support for information security risk management (data security), including data breach analysis and response, third party risk management, and insider risk
• Privacy notice, consent and contract template drafting, reviews and updates, both globally and regionally
• Provide leadership in the design and evaluation of privacy and security related projects
• Support global privacy contracts team and commercial and M&A legal teams regarding data privacy legal questions and contract review and negotiation
• Management and supervision of external privacy counsel work

Requirements:

• Position must be based near an AbbVie office location in the US or EU. 
• Law degree from a relevant jurisdiction
• 8+ years of relevant legal experience in privacy and data security matters
• Strong background in U.S. and EU data privacy requirements
• Experience with global privacy laws related to the pharmaceutical and clinical research industry preferred
• Experience with building and implementing a global privacy program
• Ability to write clearly and prepare professional communications
• Detailed and rigorous legal research and analysis skills
• Experience working with and across the full corporate structure in a matrixed corporate environment
• Experience supporting senior business leaders
• Experience in data processing agreements and data transfer agreements
• Experience working with and advising multinational affiliates across markets
• lAPP Certifications, such as CIPP/US or CIPP/E, a plus
• Language: English required
