Global Commercial Lead, Neuroscience (Alzheimer’s Disease Program)

Neuroscience is an emerging area of focus for AbbVie with dedicated Research and Development as well as Business Development efforts in the areas of Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Psychiatry and Migraine. AbbVie has dedicated Discovery efforts in 3 locations- Lake County, IL, Cambridge, MA, and Ludwigshafen, Germany AbbVie has several exciting Neuroscience assets already in Phase 2 and Phase 3, in addition to dedicated efforts to further broaden the portfolio with external assets.

New Opportunity in GCD for Director level, Global Commercial Lead for Alzheimer’s Disease; leads all aspects of developing commercial strategy for newly acquired pipeline assets and future pipeline indications.

Key Responsibilities Includes:

  • Develops the commercial strategies for Alzheimer’s Disease asset and works collaboratively within AbbVie’s franchise for disease modification approaches in AD, • Leads analysis of the market, identifies key segment value drivers, growth opportunities, target product profiles, product positioning & revenue potential
  • Leads and collaborates across the commercial triad (GCD, GMCO and US Commercial) driving strategic alignment
  • Drives development of the asset strategy and Early Brand Planning, crystalizing commercial and strategic insights by synthesizing product, brand, customer, consumer/patient, caregiver and competitive insights into the development of Early Brand Plans
  • In collaboration with Clinical development, GCD, GMAP and US Market Access – builds the global commercial value proposition for unique value proposition in the symptomatic space for cognitive deficits in AD and other potential follow-on indications,
  • Develops the global geostrategy prioritization for in partnership with development teams, US Commercial and areas / affiliates
  • Supports development of the scientific platform and drives data generation with clinical teams to satisfy global and area requirements for target product label and target product claims
  • Identifies and solves for capability gaps in order to enable successful transition from GCD to on-market teams
  • Champions asset strategies and Early Brand Plans through the Pipeline Commercialization Model and is the conduit between clinical development and commercial teams, fostering information flow that optimizes asset opportunity
  • Builds strong relationships with internal and external partners, leverages expertise to strengthen the asset value proposition
  • Leads internal Pipeline Commercialization Model processes accurately reflecting asset opportunity and required support (Long Range Plan-LRP, Portfolio, Lifecycle Management and, Annual Plan);
  • Is the commercial voice on the Asset Strategy Team (AST) and leads the Brand Strategy Team (BST)
  • As the Global Commercial Leader, effectively aligns area and affiliate market needs with asset opportunity, in line with 1-7-5 Early Brand Planning Framework.


  • Pharma, biotech, or consultant firm experience is required
  • 10+ years of experience with successful track record in pharma marketing
  • Previous Commercial Development, Pipeline Management, Marketing and/or Consulting roles an advantage
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Ph.D. or M.D.) is preferred
  • Experience in Neuroscience and Alzheimer’s Disease commercial planning is a plus
  • Experience in US Commercial and/or GMCO is a plus
  • Experience working with external partners is preferred
  • Strong analytical and strategic marketing skills as well as scientific understanding
  • Strong financial acumen with a good understanding of P&L drivers and the ability to develop appropriate SG&A investment and top-line sales forecasts that generate long-term value.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills across a variety of organization levels and disciplines, including senior executives
  • Experience with matrix-based teams and project management
  • Self-starter, strong collaborator who proactively drives projects toward successful completion
