Associate Scientist II/Scientist I - Investigative Toxicology & Pathology

The primary functions of this position are conducting laboratory experiments and analysis in support of molecular toxicology studies.
Key responsibilities:
- The candidate must be able to multi-task and collaborate successfully across other groups within R&D to identify optimal screening assays for early detection of toxicity liabilities
- Support Preclinical Safety Toxicologists and Pathologists with key in vitro platforms for investigating molecular mechanisms of toxicity and enabling optimal selection of drug candidates.
- Develop/characterize 2D and 3D in vitro platforms, focused on toxicology.
- Produce/coordinate/present key data related to mechanisms of toxicity using in vitro assays or other methods as needed.
- Analyze and interpret relevant molecular toxicology data in a timely manner and communicate data and interpretation to project stakeholders
- Collaboratively transfer in vitro platforms and methods to/from other key groups within AbbVie as needed.
Can hire at Associate Scientist II or Scientist I level based on experience.
Qualifications:
- BS in cell/molecular biology, Molecular toxicology/Pharmacology, biochemistry, or related field with 3+ years of experience or MS in cell/molecular biology, Molecular toxicology/Pharmacology, biochemistry, or related field.
- Experience in basic cell culture and molecular biology (RNA, DNA, protein) endpoints
- Good analytical skills and knowledge in data analysis, interpretation, report writing, and communication (both written and oral)
- Practical knowledge of in vitro assay development and troubleshooting
- Experience with molecular model characterization and imaging endpoint a plus
- Knowledge of traditional scientific, statistical, and graphing software
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: gene expression profiling (e.g., RNA-seq, quantitative PCR), gene silencing (siRNA or shRNA), mitochondrial function assays, and/or complex in vitro models (MPS).
