Associate Director, Business & Brand Strategy

The Associate Director of Business & Brand Strategy is a key partner to elevate the strategic agility and performance of assigned IBTs from pre-launch through all phases of brand management. This role is also responsible for leading portfolio-wide initiatives to elevate the US Area's future-focused capabilities, business strategy, and planning approach to positively affect business results.

Major Responsibilities:

Brand Strategy and Planning:

The role is a strategic partner to assigned IBTs to elevate their brand strategy and planning, including preparation for strategic and tactical reviews with senior leadership. This may include brands from pre-launch through all phases of brand management.

  • Establish relationships with IBT lead(s) and IBT members
  • Drive the adoption of the AbbVie strategic brand planning process aligned around Integrated Brand Management (7 Strategic Anchors).
  • Provide coaching and leadership for assigned IBTs on all aspects of strategic and tactical planning, as well as team effectiveness.
  • Consult on multi-asset and multi-indication portfolio strategic decision-making.
  • Lead connecting IBTs to internal resources and best practices across the portfolio and enterprise. Actively contribute to identifying, documenting, and sharing best practices.
  • Drive the continuous improvement and adoption of the U.S. integrated brand team model including strategic goal alignment and other elements of the High Performing Teams approach.
     

Portfolio-wide Capabilities, Business Strategy, and Planning:
Leads large-scale, portfolio-wide initiatives across the entire division in a matrix environment comprised of internal and external talent directly affecting the overall strategies for the U.S. business. Projects may include:

  • Build organizational capability and strengthen enterprise approach in commercial launch strategic planning and execution.
  • Co-create and implement AbbVie-wide transition model from GCD to GBT/IBT Brand Management.
  • Create and implement plan to improve differentiation, value, and ability to measure outcomes and KPIs for tactical planning and execution.
  • Elevate impact of functional contributions to IBT decision-making and strategic planning.
  • FutureFit Capabilities: Drives multi-stakeholder approach to define, assess and build plan to develop future-focused capabilities for the Area's businesses based on NNLRP findings and driven by Executive Leader insights.
  • No Numbers Long Range Plan: Champions NNLRP to assess the future healthcare environment gathering key customer insights to develop a US point of view including future trends and implications (5-Year Trends, Future Needs, Implications, Recommended Actions and Area Narrative).
  • Lead development of strategy for integration of newly acquired assets into the AbbVie approach to brand management.
Qualifications:

- 5-8 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical commercial business.
- Requires proven experience and understanding of Sales and Marketing in a mature pharmaceutical market.
- Proven ability to lead in a complex matrix environment with and without direct authority.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to influence senior commercial leaders and clearly articulate strategic objectives.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry trends.
- Strategic vision.
- Proven program and process management skills to successfully implement complex business initiatives.
- Successful record of strategic planning.

-Bachelor's degree in business or related discipline. MBA highly desirable to ensure ability to consult on business strategy development and analyze information to build insights.

 

Accountability/Scope:

This position reports to the Director, Business & Brand Strategy.
