Assistant Fire Chief
Lake County, Illinois Req ID 2207502 Category Engineering Division AbbVie- Creates and administers monthly training objectives to meet NFPA and Federal (OSHA) requirements.
- Directs instruction in current methods of haz-mat response and operations, confined space rescue response and operations, incident command operations, process unit firefighting, fire engine 1110 operation, foam systems operation, S.C.B.A use, search and rescue, flammable and combustible liquid firefighting, interior structural firefighting, WMD operations, site awareness/familiarization, and use of fire extinguishers.
- Maintains accurate attendance and training records for AbbVie Industrial Fire Department to insure all Federal (OSHA) and N.F.P.A. requirements are met. Manages and maintains health physicals for team members to verify requirements are met.
- Facilitates staffing inventories of team members to determine areas of need due to low manpower availability as well as provides the Fire Chief team evaluations and additional needs assessments for continual improvements on emergency readiness and response.
- Conducts cross-training with outside agencies and personnel, training to consist of site logistics, hazards, ERT members and equipment familiarization.
- Leads the daily operation in regards to maintaining fire alarm, building suppression and specialty systems throughout Lake County facilities.
- Performs periodic fire / safety inspections of Lake County facilities and provides site safety and environmental compliance by developing and maintaining S.O.P.’s and site Pre-Plans. Identifies and prioritizes equipment and facility life safety needs, generating detailed reports to Fire Chief.
- Recognizes hazards and assists in prevention for personnel, property, and the environment.
- Assists the Fire Chief in establishing operating procedures and preventive maintenance schedules and requirements for all equipment either owned or managed by the AbbVie Industrial Fire Department.
- Provides direction on inspections and maintenance of all valves related to the fire protection system as well as the fire pumps and storage tanks.
- Must have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree or the equivalent experience in fire protection, safety and/or loss prevention (five or more years’ experience in industrial / Municipal fire protection activities). Shall be certified as State Firefighter or Industrial Firefighter, Incident Command and Haz-mat Technician. Instructor I certification desirable.
